The McAllen Independent School District Board of Trustees has moved forward with the next steps for its voter-approved $335 million bond program, including the selection of bond underwriting services and plans for a citizen oversight committee.
The bond program is intended to support campus modernization, Career and Technical Education facilities, school safety improvements, fine arts spaces, classroom additions and other district infrastructure needs.
Trustees also discussed the process for creating the oversight committee, which is expected to provide additional transparency as projects are designed, scheduled and built. The committee will report on the use of bond funds and project progress.
The district’s bond implementation work follows voter approval in May. McAllen ISD has said the program will be managed with attention to project sequencing, financial planning and public accountability.
The board also approved a new principal appointment as part of its personnel actions.
