Justice Department seeks dismissal of case against former Olympian

The Justice Department has asked a federal court to dismiss the criminal case against former Olympic swimmer Klete Keller, who was charged in connection with damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Associated Press reported that prosecutors moved to drop the case alleging Keller deliberately damaged the pool. The request still requires court action; a motion is not itself a final dismissal.

Keller, a five-time Olympic medalist, became widely identified after video showed him inside the Capitol. Legal outcomes can change until a judge rules.
