Plastic surgeons say they are seeing more patients seeking treatment for temporal hollowing, a sunken appearance at the temples that can follow rapid facial-volume loss.
The trend has drawn attention during widespread use of GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic and related drugs. The medicines are prescribed for diabetes and, in some cases, weight management; the facial changes are not a diagnosis or expected outcome for every user.
Doctors say weight loss can alter facial-fat distribution, while aging, genetics and the speed of weight loss may also play roles. Patients considering treatment should discuss options and risks with qualified clinicians.
