UTRGV School of Medicine Welcomes Largest-Ever Class of Valley Students

The UTRGV School of Medicine’s Class of 2030 includes the largest-ever class of students from the Rio Grande Valley.

Selected from more than 5,000 applicants, 56 future physicians received white coats during the school’s annual ceremony. Thirty-four students, or 62 percent of the class, call the Rio Grande Valley home.

The ceremony marks the students’ formal entry into the medical profession and their commitment to compassionate, ethical patient care. UTRGV officials said the class reflects the school’s mission of developing physicians who can serve the communities that shaped them.

The new students earned degrees from institutions including Harvard, Johns Hopkins, The University of Texas at Austin, UCLA and UTRGV. The class is part of the university’s continuing effort to strengthen the Valley’s physician workforce and address longstanding health-care gaps.
