McAllen has received a $6 million federal grant to help develop infrastructure for a planned 47-acre industrial site on the city’s south side, moving the project from proposal to funded development.
The funding was announced July 20 by U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard W. Lutnick during a visit to McAllen. The city applied through the Economic Development Administration to support infrastructure work for the industrial park.
The project is tied to plans for private investment estimated at $34.5 million and nearly 500 jobs. The site is expected to strengthen McAllen’s industrial and trade-related development between major international bridge corridors.
The grant updates earlier reporting that McAllen was seeking federal support for the same industrial park project.
