WESLACO, Texas – South Texas College is expanding its Construction Management program to the Mid-Valley Campus this fall, giving students in Weslaco, Donna, Mercedes and nearby communities a closer option for training in a growing industry.
The program previously was offered at the Technology Campus in McAllen. The first Mid-Valley classes have filled, a response college leaders say shows strong demand for accessible construction education.
Students learn project planning, estimating, scheduling, construction methods and workplace safety. The program prepares graduates for jobs including construction manager, project coordinator, estimator and site supervisor.
Program chair Samuel Saldana said the expansion brings training closer to students and employers in the Mid-Valley area. Construction Management faculty member Daniel Montez said the program offers an affordable path into the industry and complements STC programs such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning and electrical technology.
The program has operated for more than a decade. Graduates work for local, national and international companies, government agencies and their own businesses. Students can also continue into STC’s bachelor’s degree program in Operations Management.
