Pharr Police Earn State Law Enforcement Accreditation

PHARR, Texas – The Pharr Police Department has earned accreditation through the Texas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program after completing a review of its policies, training and operations.

The Texas Police Chiefs Association presents the designation to agencies that demonstrate compliance with the state’s law-enforcement best practices for professionalism, accountability and operational performance.

Fewer than 2% of Texas law-enforcement agencies have received the recognition, according to the city. Pharr becomes the fourth accredited agency in the Rio Grande Valley and the third in Hidalgo County.

The evaluation covers written policies, training, leadership, evidence handling, accountability and other professional standards. Agencies must document compliance and undergo an outside assessment.

Police Chief Juan F. Gonzalez credited employees throughout the department, saying the accreditation reflects a shared commitment to transparency, continuous improvement and public service.

Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez said the designation demonstrates the department’s professionalism and reinforces public trust. Accreditation requires continuing review, and the department must maintain the standards to keep the status.
