McAllen Commission to Review Convention Center Expansion, Airport Parking and Loan Program

The McAllen City Commission is scheduled to review several major city items Monday, July 13, including convention facilities expansion, airport parking and a federal loan guarantee program.

The commission workshop is set for 4 p.m. at McAllen City Hall Commission Chambers, followed by the regular meeting at 5 p.m. The workshop agenda includes presentations on McAllen Convention Facilities expansion and funding options, the Section 108 Loan Guarantee Program and the parking program at McAllen International Airport.

During the regular meeting, commissioners are also expected to receive a Texas Film Friendly Certification presentation and a proclamation recognizing Parks and Recreation Month.

Public hearing items include several rezoning requests and conditional use permits, along with city-initiated rezoning items tied to the transition from the old zoning code to the new Unified Development Code.

The agenda also includes consent items related to surplus vehicles, interlocal agreements, budget amendments, grant language for Operation Lone Star funding, tax refunds and other city business. Bids and contracts include a lease agreement for El Muchachito Alegre Mariscos Express LLC at the Downtown Parking Garage Food Court and professional engineering services for new golf course improvements.
