Seven South Texas Health System freestanding emergency departments have been recognized for their work in resuscitation care, with three Rio Grande Valley locations earning American Heart Association quality achievement awards.
STHS ER McColl, STHS ER Ware Road and STHS ER Weslaco received the Get With The Guidelines – Resuscitation Silver Quality Achievement Award, which recognizes use of evidence-based practices for patients experiencing cardiac arrest.
The recognition covers protocols, performance tracking and quality improvement measures designed to support patients during time-sensitive cardiac emergencies.
South Texas Health System leaders said sudden cardiac arrest can happen without warning and requires rapid recognition, CPR, defibrillation and advanced emergency care.
The health system said its freestanding emergency departments are intended to provide close-to-home emergency access for Valley residents when minutes can affect survival and recovery.
Lance Ames, chief executive officer of STHS Edinburg, STHS Children and the system freestanding emergency departments, said the recognition reflects teamwork, clinical training and commitment to proven care standards.
The awards add to the health system broader emergency care profile across Hidalgo County and the Rio Grande Valley.
