EDINBURG, Texas – South Texas Health System Edinburg has been named a Best Regional Hospital for Community Access for the third consecutive year, recognizing the hospital’s work serving patients who may face barriers to care.
The hospital was one of 73 facilities nationwide to receive the recognition, representing less than 2% of the hospitals evaluated. It was one of five recipients in Texas and the only hospital in the Rio Grande Valley included in the group.
The assessment considers how hospitals serve socioeconomically disadvantaged and diverse communities, including patients covered by Medicaid. STHS Edinburg CEO Lance Ames said the recognition reflects the hospital’s commitment to making high-quality care available throughout the region.
The hospital has expanded services in recent years. A $105 million patient tower completed in 2022 added capacity and supported services including cardiac catheterization, laboratory care, emergency and intensive care, and rehabilitation.
Hospital leaders said continued investment in staff, facilities and specialty services is intended to keep more Valley residents close to home for treatment.
