Quinta Mazatlan and the Valley Land Fund are inviting young photographers to spend part of the summer outdoors through the Southern Exposures Youth Nature Photo Contest.
The free contest is open to youth ages 6 to 18. Participants may submit original photographs of South Texas nature, including birds, butterflies, wildflowers, reptiles, sunsets and other outdoor scenes.
The update says entries are being accepted through July 31, 2026, and participants may submit up to six photos. The contest encourages families to explore local natural areas while giving young people a creative way to document the Rio Grande Valley’s landscape and wildlife.
For McAllen families, the contest connects summer learning, outdoor recreation and regional conservation through a low-cost activity that can be done close to home.
