Quinta Mazatlan to Host Chicharras Live Event July 16

Quinta Mazatlan will host Chicharras Live on Thursday, July 16, celebrating one of the Rio Grande Valley’s most familiar summer sounds.

The event is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Quinta Mazatlan, 600 Sunset Drive in McAllen. Admission is $5 for adults and children, with children ages 2 and younger admitted free.

The evening will include live music by Valley Sereno Strings in the park, cicada sounds in the woods, a Storybook in the Woods: Cicada Symphony presentation, educational booths, crafts, drinks and food.

Chicharras, the Spanish word for cicadas, are part of the seasonal soundtrack in South Texas. Several cicada species can be found in the Rio Grande Valley, and annual cicadas help make their buzzing a reliable part of the summer.

Quinta Mazatlan is a 20-acre urban sanctuary and World Birding Center site operated under the stewardship of the City of McAllen Parks and Recreation Department.
