PHARR, Texas – The Pharr Police Department has begun a Labor Day traffic-enforcement campaign focused on impaired driving, speeding and other violations associated with fatal and serious-injury crashes.
The 2026 Texas Department of Transportation Labor Day Impaired Driving Mobilization runs from Aug. 14 through Sept. 7. Pharr police said officers will increase patrol visibility and conduct targeted enforcement across the city during the period.
The campaign is intended to deter dangerous driving before and during the Labor Day holiday, when travel and alcohol-related activity can increase. Officers will enforce driving-while-intoxicated laws along with speeding, seat-belt and other traffic-safety requirements.
Police urged residents who plan to drink to arrange transportation before leaving home. Options include selecting a sober driver, using a taxi or rideshare service, staying overnight or calling a friend or family member.
Drivers should also avoid riding with anyone who appears impaired and should call 911 when they see a motorist creating an immediate danger. Alcohol is not the only source of impairment; some medications and illegal drugs can also make driving unsafe.
An arrest for driving while intoxicated can result in jail, fines, driver's-license consequences, towing and insurance costs. More importantly, an impaired-driving crash can cause permanent injury or death.
