McALLEN, Texas — McAllen has been named one of seven 2026 World Festival and Event Cities by the International Festivals & Events Association, an honor that recognizes communities for producing events that strengthen quality of life and economic vitality.
The recognition followed the IFEA’s annual convention in Tucson, Arizona, where McAllen programs received 36 awards. The city said the honors reflect work across public events, arts programming, tourism and community engagement.
Quinta Mazatlán earned eight Gold awards for work that included the World Birding Festival, Thornforest Fest and promotions for its seasonal programming. The McAllen Holiday Parade also received multiple Gold awards, and the South Texas Book Festival received a Gold Grand Pinnacle award.
City leaders said the awards represent coordinated work by city departments, volunteers, sponsors and community partners. The IFEA awards were announced Oct. 5 during the organization’s convention.
McAllen’s event calendar and visitor information are available through the City of McAllen.
