McALLEN, Texas – McAllen recorded its lowest crime level in 40 years in 2025, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Uniform Crime Reporting data cited by the City of McAllen.
The city reported a 20.4% drop in crime volume from 2024 to 2025, falling from 2,939 reported offenses to 2,339. The city’s crime rate also declined 21.4%, from 1,968.0 to 1,547.2, according to city figures.
The largest numerical decrease came in theft, which dropped from 2,523 reported offenses in 2024 to 2,025 in 2025, a decline of 498 cases. Auto theft fell from 100 to 44, robbery dropped from 35 to 20, burglary decreased from 94 to 79, and murder declined from four reported offenses to one. Reported aggravated assault remained unchanged at 125.
The Texas UCR program is used to collect and compare crime data across jurisdictions, including violent crime, property crime, arson and human trafficking offenses.
McAllen Chief of Police Victor Rodriguez credited residents, visitors, businesses and police with helping prevent crime and assist investigations when crimes occur. The city also said crime has fallen about 81.4% from its 1995 high.
Mayor Javier Villalobos said the results show what can happen when the community works with a dedicated police department and city leadership focused on public safety. City Manager Isaac J. Tawil said the 40-year low reflects McAllen’s approach to public safety, while noting that work continues in neighborhoods, employee investment and public-safety strategies.
