Edinburg Fire Department Closes Summer With Sparky’s Back-to-School Bash

EDINBURG, Texas – The Edinburg Fire Department marked the end of summer Tuesday with Sparky’s Back-to-School Bash at the Promenade Park Amphitheater.

The family event was organized to help students prepare for the new school year while giving residents an opportunity to meet firefighters and learn about public safety.

Activities included community resources, family entertainment and fire-safety outreach. Sparky the Fire Dog, the fire service’s public-education mascot, was featured throughout the program.

Back-to-school events hosted by public-safety agencies are designed to make firefighters more familiar and approachable to children while reinforcing lessons about smoke alarms, emergency plans and calling 911.

The department announced the celebration as its final major community event of the summer season.
