DHR Health to Host Free Epilepsy Care Seminar Aug. 15

EDINBURG, Texas – DHR Health and the Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas will host a free public seminar on epilepsy care from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15.

“A Road Map to Care: A Journey with Epilepsy” will be held at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance, 118 Paseo del Prado.

The program will cover seizure types and diagnosis, epilepsy in older adults, advanced treatment options, memory and mood, brain health, patient resources and advocacy. A question-and-answer session also is planned.

Dr. Leonel Estofan, an epileptologist and medical director, is among the specialists scheduled to participate. Organizers say the seminar is intended for people living with epilepsy, family members, caregivers and members of the public who want to better understand the condition.

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder marked by recurring, unprovoked seizures. Treatment varies by patient and may include medication, surgery, implanted devices, dietary therapy or other specialized care. People should consult their medical team before changing treatment or medication.

The event is free, but registration is encouraged. For registration information, call 956-362-5326 or email my.solis@dhrhealth.com.

Anyone who sees a seizure lasting five minutes or longer, repeated seizures without recovery, breathing difficulty or a first known seizure should call 911.
