DONNA, Texas – South Texas College, Donna Independent School District and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement have launched what organizers describe as the region’s first dual-credit Basic County Corrections Academy.
The first group will include 20 seniors from Donna High School and Donna North High School. Students can earn a County Corrections Specialist occupational skills award and prepare to qualify for a TCOLE county jailer license while completing high school requirements.
STC Board Chair Paul Rodriguez said the partnership creates a direct path from high school into public safety careers. Donna ISD Superintendent Rebecca De Leon and STC President Ricardo Solis said the academy combines college credit, professional training and an industry-recognized credential.
Sgt. Sadie Stevens and STC Dean Angela Dominguez said students will receive structured instruction designed around state licensing requirements and the expectations of correctional agencies.
