DHR Health Transplant Institute in McAllen has been ranked among the top kidney transplant centers in Texas and the nation, according to the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients.
The institute ranked No. 2 in Texas and No. 16 nationally among kidney transplant centers. DHR Health said the recognition reflects access to specialty care in the Rio Grande Valley and the ability for patients to receive transplant services closer to home.
The institute performed 101 kidney transplants in 2025, which DHR Health described as a historic milestone for the organization and the region.
Established in 2017, DHR Health Transplant Institute serves adult patients from the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, Corpus Christi and surrounding communities. It is the only transplant facility of its kind serving the Valley.
The program includes a multidisciplinary team of physicians, surgeons, physician assistants, nurse coordinators, pharmacists, social workers and other healthcare professionals who care for patients with kidney, liver and pancreatic disorders, including kidney transplantation.
